Actor Headshots
The Headshots I create are meant to be a little different from the average snapshot. They are meant to grab a casting director’s attention and hold it long enough to put you in the call back pile.
Creating a successful headshot is like creating any other marketing photograph. It needs to meet certain goals that are actually set by how you plan to use the picture.
If you are planning on working in the theater, there are some standards and conventions that we need to discuss. If you are headed for film, that is a different discussion. If you plan to do both, you are better off getting two headshots!
It’s sort of like going to buy a car. If you plan to go 4 wheeling, the bmw isn’t the right vehical. And if you are traveling a lot, a big 4 wheel drive truck probably won’t meet your needs either.
Get the right tool for the job and you increase your chances of success.
Creating Your Headshot Session
It all starts with the first conversation. I don’t have set rates or a laundry list for you to choose from. We will create your photoshoot session together and decide on the target, the goals and the actual production. And, we will refine it so that it can stay within most budgets. It is actually easier than it sounds and the conversation can be both fun and very informative as it can help you to refine your own marketing goals.
The biggest challenge is usually narrowing the scope of what you plan to accomplish during our session, to get you the best bang for your buck.
The Sessions
With our plan in hand, we can go into the studio, out on location or where ever we need to go, to create the headshots. Best of all, we know what we need have and do to make them a success. Reviews of the camera or laptop will give us feedback on where the shoot is headed and other options we can explore/create together.
The Results
After the shoot is complete, the images can be uploaded to a secure server for your review after the excitement of the production. Final images can be selected for tweaking, sizing and delivery via cd rom, email or download.
The Dark Portrait Sessions were set up as a hard counterpoint to the number of simply horrible headshots that I have seen over the years. There is a whole factory industry set up out there to take generic pictures of actors and models as fast as possible. The results of these shoots are often a pile of cds with hundreds of unretouched snap shots that are all but useless to the actor.
This is not about how many different pieces of clothing you can wear. It’s not about how many times I can slam on the shutter of the camera or how fast I can fill up a cd and get you out of my studio so the next one can come in.
It’s not about quantity, it’s about quality.
The Dark Portrait is about creating a headshot portrait of you as the hero in your own movie. It is about creating a memorable image of a real character that will stick in the minds of the casting director.
“These are not factory headshots. These are images that are designed to get results.”
