I created this photo illustration after talking with my brother, who was both an avid race car driver and working for a company that is creating driver simulation software based on actual race tracks.
The goal was to create a photograph that gets the feeling of actually driving around in competition, complete with shaky visuals and intense tunnel vision.
We shot the hands on the steering wheel in the garage before the race. For the other car, I rented a nice big long lens and got permission to be out beside the track where the drivers climb up the hill on the road track at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Lots of fun! The racing simulation is cool too. But, Matt McKee Photography officially sucks at it! My nephew, Austin, beats me every time.
