Retro Girls Fashion Shoot

I ran into Anna Koon about a month ago at the Jamaica Plain Arts Council’s Mall Show at the Atrium Mall and we got talking about her new line of tote bags.

One thing lead to another and we set up a time for her to come into my studio to use my background and lighting, and her styling, to feature her merchandise.

It also gave me an opportunity to work with a new model. Laura Marotta, an artist, model and photographer herself, has also just gotten representation by an agency out in western MA.

The shot above was one we did after the bags were done. I just couldn’t resist playing with that hair against my dark portraits backdrop.

Fashion photography is a lot of fun to do. There is a lot of room for interpreting ideas and concepts and executions. However, at the end of the day, it is still about telling the story of the product.

It was a quick but fun shoot in the Hyde Park studio. I can’t wait to work with Laura and Anna again.
Actually, I am lobbying for an opportunity to do Anna’s portrait before she gets too famous!

(If you don’t know about Jamaica Plain Artist Anna Koon, you definitely need to check out her Retro Girls work. She paints, prints, styles and more! She is, to my mind, the perfect idea of the up and coming successful artist. Actually, there is a lot of truth to that. So if you like her work on her site, be sure to invest in it now. It isn’t gonna stay that inexpensive for long!)
