Dramatic Theatrical Poster Imagery: Someone Who'll Watch Over Me
Creating the dramatic theatrical poster imagery for Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me was a quick turn around brand photo project for The Boston Teen Acting Troupe.

The play was written by Irish dramatist Frank McGuinness and produced and directed by Jack Serio. Thematically, it takes its audience on a rollercoaster ride as it explores concepts of captivity, identity, and humor in the face of adversity.
The overall tone we were looking for on the poster was darker and grittier than previous work we had done for the theater company. Our goal was to get the audience involved and curious about the emotional tone of the play.

Producing dramatic theatrical poster imagery
As always, we started with a discussion of the basic concept and some rough sketches to figure out the composition.
The group portrait of the three leads was done in the studio over the course of a couple of hours, including wardrobe, makeup and blocking.
To create the dramatic theatrical poster imagery, I knew we would be relying heavily on photoshop and my large texture library to help illustrate both the gritty situation in the play and the relationships between the characters.

We ended up with two versions, to take advantage of marketing opportunities in both vertical and horizontal orientations.
The real challenge of this marketing piece was the extremely short deadline. We needed to plan, shoot and assemble the layout for the poster in less than one day!
However, as a director and producer, Jack puts as much thought into how to market his productions as he does into the production itself.
In front of the camera, Nate Guevin makes his return visit to my Hyde Park studio. He participated in the photo shoot for Alfred Hitchock’s The 39 Steps. Angelo Denofrio and Kyle Jackson round out the cast and the poster.
As always, it was a blast to work with these young, energetic and talented artists.
